Food allergies and intolerances (e.g. lactose, gluten, celiac disease) are rising globally. Reactions can range from discomfort to life-threatening anaphylaxis. Manufacturers must clearly label allergens and prevent cross-contamination, following strict regulations (EU 1169/2011, US FALCPA).
Dioxins and Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) are highly toxic compounds that pose serious risks to human health and the environment. Due to their persistence and bioaccumulation, they are strictly regulated worldwide. Eurofins is a global leader in dioxin and POP testing, offering unmatched sensitivity, speed, and expertise.
Food irradiation is used in over 60 countries to extend shelf life and improve safety. About 500,000 tons of food are irradiated annually—mainly herbs and spices. Applications include:
Killing microorganisms
Preventing sprouting (e.g. potatoes, garlic)
Sterilizing insects in grains and dried produce
Delaying ripening
Extending expiry dates for meat and fish
Strict labeling and reliable testing methods are required to meet regulatory standards.
PSL: Fast screening for dry foods with silicates TL: Sensitive method for silicate-containing foods ESR: Detects paramagnetic compounds in bones, shells, sugars, cellulose
Food labeling is essential for regulatory compliance and consumer safety. Eurofins Food Assurance helps manufacturers meet labeling requirements across global markets, ensuring smooth import/export processes. RUSH services are also available for urgent needs.
With the global expansion of GMO cultivation, food, feed, and seed producers face increasing pressure to comply with complex regulations. Asynchronous GMO approvals between countries can affect product marketability, making accurate testing and regulatory awareness essential.
Residual host cell DNA can remain in products during manufacturing, posing safety risks. Testing is essential for regulatory approval and quality assurance across food, feed, chemical, and biopharma industries.
Pesticide residues are chemical traces left on food after crop protection treatments. While essential for agriculture and public health, pesticides can pose risks to humans—including cancer and reproductive or neurological effects. Regulatory bodies set Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) to ensure safety, with frequent updates like the EU’s Regulation (EC) No 396/2005.

Food packaging plays a critical role in preserving product quality, enabling safe transport, and protecting consumer health. As global food contact regulations become stricter, manufacturers, importers, and brand owners must ensure compliance to avoid legal risks and support sustainable development.
Thailand’s MOPH Notification No. 435 (2022) sets new standards for plastic food containers, including the use of recycled materials, with a 3-year transition period.
